Music cannot be restricted by fences, believes Sounak. Notes are the same no matter which country or geographical region the music hails from. Sounak has already struck a balance between undiluted traditionalism and liberalism. He has worked with Tanmoy Bose in his world music project – Taal Tantra. There he sang in confluence with different types of western contemporary and folk music. It has been a most rewarding experience and an eye opener in many ways.
On the other hand Sounak spreads his wings to the realm of Rabindrasangeet (songs of Rabindranath Tagore), songs of Atulprasad Sen, Rajanikanta Sen and D. L. Roy. Sounak has acquired advanced training in Rabindrasangeet from famous exponents like Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta and Pramita Mallick and veteran academician and teacher Subhas Chowdhury. He has also received guidance in the Atulprasadi style from Smt. Nupurchhanada Ghosh, a very senior disciple of the legendary Krishna Chattopadhyay.
His renditions in these genres is full of philosophical insight and is always a cut above the average run-of the-mill renditions mostly heard today.
